In my opinion, style is a state of mind. It is a guiding sensibility, the inner voice that dictates the clothes we wear, the way we act, and the objects we acquire. Without that state of mind, the most eloquently tailored clothes has no style at all for it is not only the clothes that make the man but also what is inside the man’s heart and soul that makes his style. The same, of course, applies to women.

So what is a style state of mind? It begins with a deep appreciation for those things and ideas that define the difference between being alive and simply living. It is knowing what is right and acting upon that knowledge with confidence and assurance. It is poise, composure, intellect, and respect. It is the very embodiment of those quaint terms “gentleman” and “lady”.

Outward style only manifests itself when there is inner style. The trappings of wealth can never mask the absence of inner style, it can only exaggerate it and turn it into a monumental farce. True style will always tell. It will make even the most humble garments appear grand and special.

Style is a state of mind - you may not always be able to articulate it, but you will always know it when you see it.

Tux
